Not sure if there are any official tiebreakers for regular season titles.
I have heard that a regular-season championship was recognized by the ACC as of a few years ago, but the record book on theacc.com does not list any such champions.
Ties are actually pretty uncommon, even with only 5-6 duals. Since we joined:
2005: VT 5-0
2006: UVA and UMD 4-1
2007: UMD 5-0
2008: UMD 5-0
2009: VT 5-0
2010: VT and UMD 4-0 (think our dual was cancelled due to weather)
2011: VT 5-0
2012: VT, UVA, and UMD 4-1
2013: VT 5-0
2014: Pitt 6-0
2015, 2016, 2017: VT 5-0
2018: NCSU 5-0
If we manage to beat UVA and NCSU and NCSU beats UNC, I will officially declare us to be regular season co-champions.
Pretty amazing that the UNC match is only our 5th ACC dual loss in the past 11 seasons (48-5 overall). [Post edited by nvpbrown at 02/10/2019 5:42PM]
